The College of Creative Studies (CCS) and the UCSB Library invite you to an exhibition, Cosmic Synastry: Collective Codes and Personal Readings. This collaborative effort by CCS and the UCSB Library brings together eight artists exploring the intersections of personal identity, symbolism, and the celestial. Curated by UCSB Alumni Vanessa Ayala ‘24 (CCS Art) and Lucy Bell ‘25 (L&S MFA), the show pairs each artist's astrological birth chart with their artwork instead of a traditional statement or bio, inviting viewers to question the systems of meaning that shape how we understand ourselves and each other through the practice of astrology. The exhibition also includes archival materials from UCSB Library's American Religions Collection, tracing the history of astrological interpretation within metaphysical communities. Beyond the CCS Gallery, Cosmic Synastry extends across campus and into downtown Santa Barbara through public programming, including discussions, workshops, and community partnerships.
