Real-Time Study Space Availability 

For real-time study space availability, please check the Waitz building occupancy dashboard online, on the Waitz app (available in Google Play and the Apple App Store), and on the digital displays located throughout the Library.

Public Hours

All patrons and visitors are welcome to use the UCSB Library during public hours. 

All floors of the Library are open.

Gaucho Hours - UCSB Only

During Gaucho Hours (Late Night Study and Study Commons), the Library building is only available to UCSB students, faculty, and staff with a valid campus ID.

Late Night Study

Late Night Study is limited to the 1st and 2nd floors of the Library. Study spaces and collection areas above the 2nd floor are inaccessible during most Late Night Study periods.​ 

You need to use your Access Card (campus ID) at the Paseo West entrance card reader to gain access or to regain access to the building during Late Night Study hours.

Study Commons

Study Commons is limited to the Learning Commons on the 1st and 2nd Floors, Mountain Side. 

You need to use your Access Card (campus ID) at the Mountain entrance to gain access or regain access to the building during Study Commons hours.

Changes to Library Building Hours (December 2025 Update)

UCSB Library’s building hours will be as follows for the remainder of the 2025-2026 Academic Year (Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters):

• The Library will be open to the public from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday-Sunday, excluding university holidays and breaks.
• The Library will remain open to UCSB students, faculty, and staff from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM Monday-Sunday for Late Night Study on the 1st and 2nd Floors. 
• The Library will remain open to UCSB students, faculty, and staff from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM on Sunday-Thursday nights for Study Commons in the Learning Commons on the 1st and 2nd Floors, Mountain Side. 
  
  • Study Commons is made possible in part through funding support from UCSB Associated Students (AS) and a partnership between the Library and AS, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and the UCSB Police Department.
• Exception: During Dead Week and Finals Week, Late Night Study hours will be 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM, ensuring exclusive 24-hour access for UCSB students, faculty, and staff during the busiest times of the academic year.
